ELDR

Nowhere Else To Go

Review by Gary Hill

ELDR is a husband and wife duo of Jameson Elder and Hanna Rae. The music they have created on this EP is intriguing and inventive. It has quite a few different leanings and influences built into it. You'll hear things from rock music to country, roots sound, dream pop and more at different points. It's all very well written and performed. It's also all very entertaining.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) form in Music Street Journal: 2022  Volume 5. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2022.

Track by Track Review
Coming Undone
Echoey textures bringing a dreamy retro element to bear. Gentle vocals come in over the top of that arrangement. It gets augmented by backing vocals and other layers as this continues to explore its sonic landscape.
Nowhere Else To Go
The title track drives in more rocking. It has plenty of Americana in the mix and is a very effective number. Where the opener had plenty of retro textures, this is more decidedly modern in sound. Elder has more vocals on this song than he did on the opener. His singing seems to bring a bit of contemporary country sensibility to the song.
Safe With You
There is definitely more of that country angle on this. The song has a rock based arrangement and really classy sounds to it. It's not a big change from the two that preceded it, but it is very effective.
My Love Looks Good On You
Elder's vocals are the first ones heard on this number. It turns to a duet type of thing as Rae takes the second verse. This is a balladic song that brings some variety and a lot of style to the set. There are definitely some dreamy vibes in the mix.
You're What Makes A Good Day
Folk music with a real country angle is on the menu as this bouncy playful tune gets going. This is another that is done as a duet. There is a real down-home vibe to this along with a lot of fun. It really has a grounding effect in the closing slot of the album.
