The Romantics

Live in Elgin, Illinois, July 2016

Review by Eric Meli

I loved The Romantics back in the 80s, so it was really nice to get to see them live. They started the night with their classic "Rock You Up," and then did their cover (from the album National Breakout) of The Underdogs’ “Friday at the Hideout.”

Singer Wally Palmar did a wonderful job with a cover of The Animals’ "We Gotta Get out of This Place." Next was "Talking In Your Sleep," which became a giant sing a long. Mike Skill sounded great singing on “Stone Pony.” The next song, which got people clapping along, was a cover of The Kinks’ "She's Got Everything." That was on The Romantics’ self-titled album from 1980. For the encore they rocked out on one of my  favorite songs "What I Like About You." That really got the audience dancing and singing.

The Romantics really sounded great, and I feel they have only gotten better with age. Also, the newest drummer (Brad Elvis) is a great drummer and showman and a wonderful addition to the band. My only regret is that they didn’t play long enough
