Don McLean

Starry Starry Night DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This is a newly remastered edition of a 1999 Don McLean concert. The thing is, if you didn't know better, you'd probably think it was from the 1970s. There are quite a few songs, landing mostly in the neighborhood of folk and country music. He manages to rock out pretty well at times, though, particularly on "Fashion Victim." At other times the string arrangement adds quite a bit to this There are bit of interview interspersed at a few points. There are two duets with Nanci Griffith. There are some bonus features included here, in the form of live clips from the 70s through the 90s.
