Michael Schenker

Fest: Live Tokyo International Forum Hall A DVD

Review by Gary Hill

One could say that there are enough Michael Schenker live videos out there, why do we need another? Well, this one is really a chronicle of a special event, meaning that if some are extraneous, this is not. What makes this event so special is that all three of his 80s era singers, Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet and Robin McAuley were on hand for the show.

The concert was standard Schenker fare, guitar godhood combined with some solid tunes, made even more special by this special lineup. I'm going to review the CD version of this next issue, so I'm not focusing on the music as much here as the overall experience. I will say that it's cool that the set-list is done in chronological order.

Given that this is a new video, you can gather (rightly so) that the video and audio are both quite good. The bonus features here are a soundcheck and slideshow. All in all, if you are going to get only one recent Schenker video, this is the one you should buy.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2017  Volume 2 at lulu.com/strangesound.
