Records Collecting Dust II DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Apparently this guy Jason Blackmore and I think alike at least in some ways. I remember when I first started doing interviews with musicians, I had an idea to do interviews with musicians about the music that really got them into music. I felt that some of the best conversations I have had with people involve talking with them about the music that they love. I got to do that project when I released Poetry of the Air. If I had been a film-maker rather than a writer, I would have probably created something like this instead. This documentary is essentially a video representation of the same concept. Of course, my book is more focused on classic rock and progressive rock circles, whereas this is more in the punk zone. I find myself really drawn to this project because it's precisely the kind of thing I find interesting. It turns out this is the second edition. I'm going to have to seek out the first edition and check it out, too. This video features interviews with guys from bands ranging from Jerry's Kids, Cro-Mags, Minor Threat, Agnostic Front and both. I think this will appeal to people whether they like the music of the people interviewed or not. It just has sort of a universal music appeal to it. I should mention, too, that I love how the DVD label makes it look like a small record. It's just a cool little touch on an already intriguing project.
