Great White

Live and Raw Blu-Ray

Review by Gary Hill

Let me start off with something I’ve read but can’t conclusively confirm. I’ve heard that this Blu-Ray is just a Blu-Ray release of the earlier DVD. By that, I mean, that they haven’t upgraded anything but rather just transferred it all to a different format as is. I don’t have the other version to compare, so I can’t conclusively confirm that, but it seems reasonable.

Now, with that out of the way, is this release something worth having, particularly if you don’t have another edition of it? I would say that if you like Great White, the answer is definitely “yes.” It includes two concerts. The first is from August of 1990 and it spans close to two hours with 17 songs. The second show is from the late 1990s, although the date is not specified. It’s a little less than an hour-and-a-half long and has twelve tunes.

The video and audio are both acceptable, but the 1990 show is definitely the better one from a technical point of view.  There is one bonus feature here, an interview with Jack Russell. I would say that if you don’t have the DVD version, this is well worth having. If you have that one, you might want to think twice before this, because it might not be a real upgrade.
