Jethro Tull

Their Fully Authorized Story DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Who is your favorite heavy metal band? Did you say “Jethro Tull?” Sorry, that was a quick joke about the whole Grammy kerfuffle where they beat out Metallica. That’s one of the stories discussed in this career spanning documentary.

Now, before we get too far into this review, I should mention that this is basically a reissue of a documentary from 2008, so don’t expect anything after that date to be included here.

Unlike a lot of documentaries, this is an authorized film – but I bet you got that from the title, right? That means they got to use a lot of footage and actual Jethro Tull music. As good as some unauthorized documentaries can be, that touch really elevates any such endeavor.

Now, when you hear “authorized,” you might thing, “oh, this is going to be some all positive promo piece.” Well, that’s not exactly the case. There are a lot of blemishes and dark sides talked about, including criticism of Ian Anderson. That makes this better than a lot of authorized documentaries.

It should be mentioned that this doesn’t really include any bonuses worth mentioning. The documentary itself is well worth the price of admission, though.
