Dave Kilminster

Interviewed by G. W. Hill

Interview with Dave Kilminster from 2014

MSJ:

It’s been a year or so since we last chatted. Can you catch the readers up on what’s been going on in the world of Dave Kilminster?

Sure... we finished up the “Wall Live” tour in September last year, after three incredible years! And then I played a benefit event called “Stand Up For Heroes”' with Roger [Waters] in New York last December, raising money for the Bob Woodruff Foundation that looks after injured servicemen and women...

And I guess most of my time recently has been taken up with recording and mixing my new album, which came out last month... there's always so much to do, especially when you're doing most of it yourself!

MSJ: What's ahead for you?
I wrote so much stuff for this latest album... I was even tempted to release a double album! But I knew it would just take too long... So anyway now I'd like to start recording the next one... I have tons of music inside  my head at the moment, and I just want to get it recorded and out there...

First though I'm going to take a little holiday, as it's been non stop for a few years now...

MSJ: What was the last CD you bought and/or what have you been listening to lately?
I think the last CD I bought was The Raven That Refused to Sing, by Steven Wilson.... I tried not to listen to any music while I was recording though, as I get too easily influenced in that hyper creative state...

Before I started recording though, I went back and listened to some of my favourite albums when I was growing up... The first five Queen albums, most of Led Zeppelin's catalogue, Makin' Magic by Pat Travers.... actually, I think you can probably hear a little of those influences coming through on the new album!

MSJ: Have you read any good books lately?
I've just started reading  A Pure Drop: The Life of Jeff Buckley... but I haven't gotten very far yet though, so I don't know whether it's any good or not!
MSJ: What about the last concert you attended for your enjoyment?
I went to see Jeff Beck last May... I find him such an inspiring guitarist, and one of the very few older players that's still getting better!
MSJ: Are there any closing thoughts you would like to get out there?
Yes, please check out my new album! It's called ...”and THE TRUTH will set you free...” and this video link will give you some idea of what to expect.... : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmE9ATrlckI
