There are a few things about Tempest that cannot be disputed. The first is that the musicians in this band are very talented. The second is that they like to be fun. They definitely proved both of those to the loyal fans gathered at Fitzgerald’s to hear them. The group opened with several tracks from their newest release “Balance”. Sometimes, starting off with new, potentially unfamiliar territory can be a mistake. The gamble paid off for Tempest on this night, though, with the crowd giving the new material a strong reception. In fact, the group’s blend of progressive rock, straight ahead rock and roll and Celtic music went over exceptionally well overall the entire evening. They played a set that, although based strongly on the new album, covered all sections of their career. All the musicians showed off their chops quite well, while still managing to clown around and have a good time with each other. If you are a fan of traditional music and of potent rock arrangements, by all means get out and see this group.
