Suicidal Tendencies

No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family

Review by Gary Hill

When Suicidal Tendencies were getting ready to record their second album, Mike Muir joined the group and the whole project moved in a different direction. These recordings represent the album they would have created had Muir not come on board. It’s raw thrash meets hardcore meets skate music. The sound is aggressive and powerful. It’s a killer tune.

Track by Track Review
Suicidal Maniac

There’s an almost funky texture to the bass on this, but the cut is overall super-aggressive and very much in keeping with the time of thrash/hardcore dominated music that was trademark STs.

Possessed To Skate
The bass that drives this is awesome. It’s another aggressive jam.
The Prisoner
The intensity doesn’t let up as they slam the listener into submission. There’s some smoking hot guitar soloing on this piece. There’s a killer slower grind built in later.
I Feel Your Pain...And I Survive
Thrash and hardcore combine in this screamer.
Join The ST Army
There’s a bit of a start and stop element here. It’s got a lot of thrash built into it, but that doesn’t mean they forgot the hardcore. The bass makes me think of Red Hot Chili Peppers.
No Name, No Words
Careening this way and that, this is nicely off balance and very aggressive.
Born To Be Cyco
Raw and aggressive, this is very much in a hardcore vein.
Come Alive
While nothing’s drastically altered here, this doesn’t feel tired or redundant.
Something Inside Me
The bass on this is amazing. It’s another smoking hot tune.
No Mercy Fool!
Here’s another cool jam. It’s more thrash than hardcore. There’s a cool hardcore section later, though.
We're F'n Evil
More hardcore oriented, this one is a lot like “Institutionalize.”
Crazy But Proud
This is a weird little instrumental that’s almost psychedelic and leans towards space rock.
I'm Your Nightmare
We’re back into the standard thrashcore zone.
Widespread Bloodshed...Love Runs Red
Another frantic cut, this is very heavy and very thrash-like.
