Zebra

Zebra The DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I remember way back in the day thinking that Zebra were one of the proggier metal bands of the ’80’s. I don’t know whether I was wrong or I only heard a small part of their music or they’ve moved on, but in any event, these guys are more killer hard rocking metal that has a lot in common with early Rush and Led Zeppelin. The Rush comparisons are strengthened by the fact that this is a trio. Whatever you call it, though, these guys are a great band and the music on here is top-notch. The sound and videography are both quite good, too. The only complaint I have is one I’ve seen in other concert DVD’s Black Sabbath’s Last Supper is the first that comes to mind. They chose to put the interview segments in the middle of the live concert portions of the DVD. This wouldn’t be such a big deal if they had put in a menu option for you to play the concert without the interviews. They didn’t though. I’m not sure who keeps putting together videos like this, but I hope they quit. It’s a great way to put a negative twist on a DVD that otherwise would be just plain incredible. You can always hit “skip” but it would have been a lot better had this been set up differently.
