Strawberry Fields

Live Strawberry Fields DVD

Review by Larry Toering

This wonderful performance is captured from the Silesian Theater in Katowice, Poland concert on April 20th, 2011, and it's the perfect setting for this very hypnotic prog band with a trip-hop twist. This is not essentially trip-hop in every sense of the term, but with lovely female vocals that sing rather than the usual rap style attached to that genre. It's actually more psychedelic prog than anything else, but categories are always tricky. Altogether the viewer is treated to twelve songs that just get better as they go. One of the tracks is previously unreleased, and two are from the band Satellite, comprised of Strawberry Fields personal. From “Open Your Eyes” to “Is It Over,” they proceed to mesmerize every second of the show. This is yet another striking band to come from Poland in recent years. It also features bonus material in the shape of some interviews and a photo gallery. The entire band are all top notch pros at their performing craft, and have a large variety of instruments assembled on stage for the cause. That alone is entertaining to watch, as well as their interesting act and display of controlled energy. I recommend this item to any prog lover who likes to dance or just have a different time watching a live show, rather than those looking for something more serious. This is a playful band with no bad attitudes in sight. One member worth particularly mentioning is the singer Robin. She commands the audience with a nice charm and it's a breath of fresh air from the usual front man factor. All put in stellar performances on this fascinating DVD.
