Pink Floyd

Pulse (double DVD set)

Review by Gary Hill

Here I'm taking a look back at the remastered version of Pink Floyd's live video Pulse. This comes on two DVDs. The video and audio quality are great, and there is a lot of great music here.

I have to admit that personally, I wish we had gotten "Echoes" and something from the Animals album because those are personal favorites, but with a group who has such an extensive catalog, I doubt you'll ever get a set list that's exactly what you want. This is pretty darned good.

It's also worth noting that (perhaps controversially), I've always been Team Gilmour, but the loss of Roger Waters' vocals is sometimes felt pretty heavily. It's not that these versions are bad, they are very good. It's just that they'll never feel the same because of the different vocals.

Overall, I like this a lot. We get a full album rendition of Dark Side of the Money, and plenty of other great Pink Floyd music here. One odd choice for was the menu layout. I mean the bonuses (some bootleg recordings, two music videos and some other odds and ends) are all on the first disc. It seems like it would make more sense to put them on the second because you probably want to watch them after the concert, not in the middle of it. Still, that's a small quibble. Overall, this is quite a fine concert film.
