Rush

Classic Albums 2112 / Moving Pictures DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This Classic Album series is a great one and this is one of the best releases of the bunch. It focuses on two Rush albums and they are two of the most legendary. For my money, I wish they had found a spot to focus a bit on the albums in-between (but that’s just personal preference). I found the interviews and snippets of music to be a real insight into what was going on in the world and minds of Rush at the time. It showed that they had the inimitable spirit of defiance with 2112. The label had demanded a more commercial release from the group and their response was the most progressive rock oriented disc to that point. You can’t argue with that giant finger in the air. This certainly isn’t the same as Beyond the Lighted Stage, but in terms of insight into two important Rush releases, it’s downright essential for both the hardcore Rush fan and the more casual one.
