Phil Collins

Going Back – Live at Roseland Ballroom, NYC DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Understanding the event is important when coming into this DVD. Don’t expect to hear Phil Collins’ big hits, or any of his songs from Genesis. Collins’ latest album was a showcase of his love for classic Motown music and the concert that makes up this DVD continues that homage. So, it’s all old-school covers, although some aren’t precisely old Motown classics. It’s delivered with style, but it’s not progressive rock, but is included in the prog section because of Collins’ work in Genesis. If you understand all of this coming into the festivities, it’s good (but not great music). Collins and company put on a good show and it’s all captured quite well for posterity in this DVD.
