Queen

Days of Our Lives BluRay

Review by Gary Hill

This is an incredible documentary. It goes very much in depth into the Queen story, from the beginnings through Freddie Mercury’s death and beyond. There are a lot of inside insights and interviews with the major players in the story. If you saw this on TV, you’ll have been captured by it, but on BluRay it’s even better because there is a lot of additional footage. In terms of bonuses, we get a batch of music videos. For my money the best of those are “Seven Seas of Rhye” and “Killer Queen,” but all are worth having. And, for those quibbling about this being considered progressive rock at Music Street Journal…well, the early material Queen released certainly qualified, and the later stuff fit under the definition of “rock music that progresses,” so there they land. Whatever genre, though, if you only want to see one Queen documentary, it has to be this one. And, the bonus videos make this worthwhile even if you only watch the documentary once.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2012  Volume 1 at lulu.com/strangesound.
