Iain Matthews

Live At Rockpalast DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Iain Matthews is probably known most as part of the band Fairport Convention. This live DVD captures him in solo performance with his own band. While Fairport leaned more towards the proggy end of folk music, here the music is closer to an older rock and roll sound. It's electrified and quite strong. The audio and video are both quite good. Then again, this was recorded for TV so that makes sense.

The video itself doesn't have any bonus features, but that doesn't mean there aren't any bonus features at all. This set includes two audio CDs. The first is what you'd expect - an audio disc of the concert. If that was the only thing we get in terms of bonuses, it would be great. They went beyond great, though. This also includes a CD of the studio version of all the songs. That makes this beyond great.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 5 at lulu.com/strangesound.
