Hawkwind

Knights of Space DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This DVD captures a show from Hawkwind from December 2007. The band does an annual Christmas show, and that was this show. Alan Davey had recently departed from the band, being replaced by Mr. Dibs. The remainder of the lineup was Dave Brock (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Tim Blake (keyboards, theremin),  Jason Stuart (keyboards) and  Richard Chadwick (drums, vocals).

I have read some reviews of this that say the vocals are bad, I don’t really hear it other than on a song or two. The musical performances are exceptional as far as I’m concerned. I will say that for my tastes, you just can’t go wrong with Hawkwind. This video seems to really capture the magic of actually seeing the band live. I got the same feeling watching it that I do when I actually see the band live.

The set-list has some songs that I consider real treats including, "Aero Space Age Inferno.” "Paradox," "Robot" "Paradox,” "Robot" and "Flying Doctor.” Mr. Dibs did an exceptional version on the spoken pieces of the set. All in all, I’d consider this to be one of the best live videos from the band. It is so enjoyable.
