Stoned and Bored

Review by Gary Hill

There was a time when pretty much all music coming out of Nashville, Tennessee was country, or at least heavily country leaning. Those days are gone, and this album is an example of that. Sure, there is still a lot of country coming out of Nashville, but the scene is very diverse and wide ranging in terms of styles.

In this case the music found here is alternative rock based with a real pop music angle. There is a bit of a country edge on one song, but that's fairly minor even there. However you label this, it's a collection of strong music that's creative, accessible and just plain cool.

Track by Track Review
Sleepy Weather
There is a classy alternative rock sound to this. It's tempered with a definite pop edge. This is a fun romp with solid hooks and a good energy.
Anaheim

While this isn't as immediate or quite as directly poppy as the opener, it's a great tune. It still has plenty of alternative rock built into it. I really love the guitar solo on this, too.

Starpower

While not a big change, this is strong enough that it doesn't need to be. It's charming and entertaining.

Stoned & Bored
I really dig the classy sound of this. There is more of a hard rocking energy, but none of the catchiness is sacrificed for it.
Chesterfield Checkered Blue
This time around we get a ballad. The number grows into some dreamy, soaring territory as it continues to evolve, becoming more of a power ballad. This is a change. It's also a great tune.
Wisconsin

A full ballad, this has a more stripped back and vulnerable feeling to it.

Lime Green
I like the slow moving and expressive guitar solo on this rocker. There are some definite hints of country music in the mix on this thing, but overall it's solid alternative rock.
Older

Here we get another solid alternative rocker. It's not a huge change, but it's an effective song.

Bad For You
The closer is another alternative rocker with some real pop hooks in the mix.
