Balancing Act

Review by Gary Hill
I have previously reviewed quite a few albums from this band. I generally land them under progressive rock, although it’s usually not a tight fit. That’s true of this one, too. The mix of sounds is great, though, and this really works well with a lot of classic rock in the mix.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) form in Music Street Journal: 2026  Volume 1. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2026.

Track by Track Review
All This and More

The vocals as this get started remind me of Chris Squire. The song starts with a mellow movement that is so classy. It works out from there to more driving progressive rock to continue. This is a dynamic tune that’s really cool.

I'm on the Upside

This has more of a pop rock vibe. There are elements of things like The Beatles and 1960s pop rock in the mix here, There are also some alternative rock angles. It’s not as proggy as the opener was, but it’s very cool.

The Helping Hand

I’m reminded a little of what you might get if you merged The Beatles with Procol Harum. This has a catchy pop rock vibe, but also lots of cool style and charm that leans toward prog and psychedelia.

Mr. Rubinstein

Now this is cool, it’s bouncy and catchy and so much fun. It has some cool proggy and jazz like vibes augmented by classical strings and horns.

Tell the World it Happened

Dreamy and so cool, this has a lot of pop, but also plenty of progressive rock in the mix. This is a standout tune that somehow stands taller than all the classy music around it.

Land of the Desert

I like the strings on this track. This has a psychedelic rock angle with proggy vibes at play, too.

Back of My Hand

Folk music, rock and more merge on this thing. The strings lend some magic, and this definitely fits as folk prog. It has some non-lyrical vocals late, but otherwise is an instrumental,

Puppet Laureate

I love the title of this track so much. The song is more of a rocker. It has a lot of psychedelia in the mix along with proggy tendencies.

The Swan of Eileen Lake

I love the interplay between the male and female vocals. This has a great classic rock vibe, but it’s also got dreamy elements and prog vibes. It’s another winner.

Adelaide

Piano and more are on display here. This is bouncy and artsy. It’s also fun.

Less Dystopian Book

Dreamy, trippy and so cool, this proggy number is definitely one of my favorite tunes here.

Jacaranda Blossoms

Prog, psychedelia and more merge on this classy number. This is another standout tune. It has a smoking hot instrumental section that features bouncy proggy stuff and a killer guitar solo.

Balancing Act

Keyboards get us underway here, and the track builds out gradually from there with cool proggy vibes. This is so classy and works through a number of changes.
