B. B. King

Live At The Royal Albert Hall 2011

Review by Gary Hill

This is sort of an oddity. Its main value is as a historic document. This was a record of the final B. B. King concert in the UK. If you buy it to check out a B.B. King live performance you are likely to be disappointed, though. A lot of the show is just Mr. King talking. Then a lot of the actual performances are by his guest musicians rather than him. Those guests include Slash, Ronnie Wood, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. I have to say that I got to see B.B. King in the 1990s, and I’m glad I did. This is not the kind of King show I’d like to remember him by. That said, it really does have its place as record of an important event. I’m glad to own it for that reason, but there are better King shows to have if you want to really enjoy his performance.
