MSJ:
It’s been a year or so since we last chatted. Can you catch the readers up on what’s been going on in the world of Jeff Berlin? |
Things are great! I feel well and I play better at 61 than I ever did before. I'm in Lugo, Spain finishing a tour with drummer Gary Novak and guitarist Scott Henderson so my playing is at its peak. |
MSJ: What's ahead for you? |
A new CD for 2015 is in the works. I have some gigs booked with Lenny White and Scott Henderson for next year, plus some gigs with Jaco Pastorius' steel drummer Othello Molineaux booked for Brazil in January. I also have a recording project with record producer Gil Goldstein in January. Plus, my band is being booked for the fall. |
MSJ: What was the last CD you bought and/or what have you been listening to lately? |
Nothing contemporary, but I did hear some Gentle Giant and although I knew the name of the band, I never heard their music until recently. It is wonderfully written, played and sung original music. I am their newest fan. |
MSJ: Have you read any good books lately? |
I just started reading Lyndon Johnson and the America Dream as Johnson always fascinated me. |
MSJ: What about the last concert you attended for your enjoyment? |
I haven't been to a concert for enjoyment in years. If I went, the concert would have to feature Beethoven's 9th Symphony, or Chopin, Debussy or Ravel works. |
MSJ: Are there any closing thoughts you would like to get out there? |
Yes! To get to happiness, you have to sometimes go through pain. I was deeply involved with personal growth and went through a long period of looking face to face at all my personal elements that were not peaceful or helpful in my life, things that I believed and lived by. Change came organically, and it came as I finally decided to accept utterly everything about me that often was not pretty to look at. If happiness came to me, it can come to anyone brave enough to see their own truths up close.
