Donovan

The Donovan Concert - Live In L.A. DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I have to say I’ve always been a fan of Donovan. The truth is, though, his music has always seemed relegated to the past. As he shows in this performance, though, the man is an artist who is quite interested in keeping his sound relevant. While he performs a good many of the classics, this isn’t just a greatest hits album type of show. We get variations in many of the tellings here. It’s a refreshing thing when many artists might as well just put on the CD and lipsynch because there is so little inspiration in the live set. If I had any complaints on this, it would be the video and audio recording. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t bad by any means, but they could be better. The long and short of it, this set is definitely a great thing for long-time Donovan fans. For those who enjoyed him in the day, but haven’t seen him in a long time it’s also highly recommended. The truth is, I’d give this a big “thumbs up” for fans of great music far and wide.
