Fairport Convention

Tony Palmer's Film of Fairport Convention

Review by Gary Hill

Fairport Convention die hards probably know all about this DVD. That's good because they are certainly the primary audience. Featuring roughly half an hour of live footage, this is the only existing video of what most consider the crucial lineup of Fairport. The band at the time were composed of Richard Thompson, Dave Sarbrick, Dave Pagg, Dave Mattacks and Simon Nicol. They make their way through seven songs in a well filmed and solid video. Also included in the set is an interview with Tony Palmer about the making of this film. The video is certainly a must have for hardcore Fairport Convention fans.  The more casual fan, though, might want to sit this one out. It's good, but not essential for their collection.
