Earth Wind and Fire

In Concert DVD

Review by Gary Hill

When it comes to soul music you just can't get much better than Earth Wind and Fire. So, it's a great thing that this video has come out on DVD. The concert captured here was filmed in the 1981 and because of that suffers a bit from the technology of the time. Analog video just doesn't hold up to the digital standards we've gotten used to, but when you have older video there's nothing you can do about that. Besides, as analog goes this is pretty darned good. And the audio has been worked with to make it more in line with modern standards. The end result is a concert film that captures a great performance - OK, it's actually culled from two consecutive nights in December of 1981 - that goes a long way to show why Earth Wind and Fire truly have no equals in their musical genre. Fans of the band young and old should pick this one up. It might have some minor issues based mostly around the time period in which it was filmed, but it's a great release. You'll find yourself digging it out over and over again.
