Todd Sucherman

Methods and Mechanics - For Useful Musical Drumming DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This is a drum instructional video by Todd Sucherman, but also a drum inspirational video because he really gets into a lot of the philosophical concepts behind his art. Currently a member of Styx, Sucherman has played with such luminaries as Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and even Spinal Tap (thankfully he didn’t explode like so many of their drummers). Through demonstrations and examples Sucherman lays out a lot of the technical skills that a good drummer will use to produce their own music. Certainly drummers are the main audience for this release, but it is interesting for those of us who can’t play the skins (I know, I’m one of those folks).
