Dinosaur Jr

Bug: Live at the 9:30 Club - In the Hands of the Fans DVD

Review by Gary Hill

You’d truly be hard pressed to find a band with a sound as massive or loud as Dinosaur Jr. The punk band is captured in a 2011 performance, playing their Bug album from start to finish. The thing is, these guys are also incredibly creative and talented. It would be easy to describe a lot of their music as “noise” if you are a casual listener, but there is really a lot going on within the sounds. It’s loud, and in fact, crushing, but it’s also got subtleties and intricacies. In addition to the concert itself, there is an introductory segment where Henry Rollins interviews the band, and that was actually the opening act for the tour, Rollins interviewing them live. This is quite a cool set that would make a great introduction to the band.
