Taylor Swift

American Beauty: Unauthorized DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Those looking for insights into the life and career of Taylor Swift will find some things to like about this. It’s definitely not without its issues, though. For one thing, there are no chapters. That means if you want to skip to a section, you are out of luck. You have to watch it from beginning to end. Secondly, this is an odd documentary. Rather than focus on interviews with people on the periphery and stock footage like most unauthorized documentaries, this is narrated with actors taking the parts of all the people. That’s a little strange. Beyond those complaints, though, this is insightful and entertaining.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2012  Volume 4 at lulu.com/strangesound.
