Johnny Winter

with Dr. John - Live in Sweden 1987 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Starting on the tour bus, this live set has a decent amount of behind the scenes stuff at the beginning. Once they hit the stage, though, it’s all music and all on fire. This group was clearly firing on all cylinders. I love the reach around bit where Johnny Winter plays the bass while his bass player is playing the guitar – and they do it without switching instruments. This is obviously a professional filmed show and it looks and sounds great. There’s a bonus track here from 1972. That particular video is definitely not up to the same quality standards, but it is a bonus. This set has been floating around for years as a bootleg. It’s great that it’s gotten released officially now. It’s worth the wait.
