Sting
Live at the Olympia Paris DVD
Review by Gary Hill
This new video from Sting is highly recommended in my book. The video is quite good, but it does have a tendency toward quick cuts. I thought that was something that was left behind in the 80s. Even so, that's not the predominating video style. So, while it can be annoying, the bulk of the video is free of it.
I love the performance. I saw Sting live once, and I have to say you really can't go wrong. His music wanders well into progressive rock territory while not losing the more alternative edge. His show really focuses on producing a great musical experience. This is a professional show and a professional video record of it. You can't ask for much more than that.
This DVD includes some cool performances with guests. The main guest is Sting's son Joe Sumner who performs solo and with his dad. Other performances are by The Last Bandoleros. It's nice icing on the cake, but the cake is the real show. From the song selection to the video and audio and the performances, this is such a great serving. I can't recommend it enough.
