Tito & Tarantula
Live at Rockpalast DVD/CD Set
Review by Gary Hill
I don’t think I have heard these guys before. That is not entirely true. One of their songs was included in the movie “From Dusk to Dawn.” The sound these guys create is pretty special. It is blues rock oriented. It has elements of heavy metal. There is punk in the mix. It is raw and powerful, and yet almost delicate and vulnerable at the same time. There is a lot of roots music and Americana here. I can make out some Alice Cooper type sounds at times. While most of the lyrics are in English, some are in Spanish. The thing about this music is that no matter what you call it, though, this really rocks.
This set is quite classy. It includes two DVDs along with two CDs of the music from the two Rockpalast concerts here. The first DVD is a smoking hot performance from 2008. In addition, it includes an interview with the band. There a couple extended clips as bonus material.
The second DVD actually has footage from two shows. The first is their Rockpalast performance from 1998. While the Rockpalast gig in the first disc is shot after dark, this one was a daytime gig. While band had a bit less crunch, they lost nothing else here.
The second set on this second disc is a Sarajevo show from 2002. This show is strictly DVD release here. It is another after dark show. It is more like the show from the first disc because it is crunchier.
All three videos here are good quality in terms of video and audio. All three performances are on fire. I heartily recommend this.
