Peter Gabriel

Secret World Live DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This video was originally released in 1994. It actually won a Grammy Award for Best Music Film. The sound and video quality are exceptional. The performance is top-notch. All of the musicians are so good. Those who enjoy Peter Gabriel’s live performances will love this.

I have to admit that while I love the music Gabriel does, I’m not a big fan of the style of the shows. With all the choreography and dancing, it feels a bit too Vegas for me. I know of lots of people who loved to see this band live, so it’s all about the individual tastes. I love the musical performances, though. The only issue I have with the music (and it’s a minor one) is that Paula Cole (who was the female vocalist for the tour) is no Kate Bush (who is inimitable) and “Don’t Give Up” (a song that I love) suffers a bit from it. Overall, though, the music is great, though, and this is an exceptional release.
