Kiss

The Lost 1976 Concert DVD

Review by Greg Olma

Kiss have released so many concert videos that you have to be a true aficionado of the group to really get a handle on what you may have and what is a new.  As a young lad, I always felt that the Destroyer stage setup was the best, and while they have had bigger staging after, this timeframe was always my favorite.  The second half of 1976 saw them unveil this new stage show, and the show where they headlined a stadium for the first time was captured on this DVD.  Unfortunately, it is in black and white and not the full show, but to have anything from this timeframe is gold.  I know there are other shows out there from the Destroyer Tour like Anaheim Stadium, but there is something special about seeing the band just starting out on a tour and getting used to the new staging.  The biggest reason I can give for purchasing this disc is that it includes “Flaming Youth,” which was only performed at the very beginning of the tour and then subsequently dropped form the set list.  If you are a true Kiss fan, you will want it for that reason alone.

The bonus material is good in that it has their appearance on the Mike Douglas Show back in 1974.  If you have the Kissology Vol.1 set, you will have this already, but back in 2003 when this DVD was released, it was a new bonus for us Kiss fans.  The other bonus is a video by a group called "The Kieselhorst Experience,"and it is an instrumental track that has a bunch of Kiss footage both old and new.  It's not required viewing but somewhat cool to check out once or twice.  The Lost 1976 Concert is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but well worth it to round out that Kiss collection.
