Todd Rundgren

The Arena Tour Live Blu-Ray

Review by Gary Hill

There is definitely good news and bad news when it comes to this release. Todd Rundgren’s 2008 tour in support of the Arena album featured an amazing show. The very fact that there is a live video of the show is part of the good news. The quality of the performance is another piece of pleasant news.

The downside here is actual product. First, apparently this is not the full show. It does include most of the show, though. The bigger issues, though is the sound here. While the video is quite good, the audio mix is really not that good. It has too much audience sound, and the vocals are often hard to make out. I’m not sure if was a problem with the original recording or something the person who mixed it screwed up. Either way, it’s definitely an issue. It turns this from what could have been a great release into something that lands more on the good end of the spectrum.
