7dayBinge

Review by Gary Hill

Those who like retro rock – of the stoner, hard edged bluesy variety – will love this album. Kind of a supergroup of sorts, 7dayBinge features Todd Harrell of 3 Doors Down on bass, Jon Nicholson of the Muzik Mafia on guitar and vocals, Kenny Olson of Kid Rock’s band on lead guitar, and Shannon Boone on drums. There’s nothing earth shatteringly original here – in other words you won’t hear anything that makes you think “I’ve never heard nothing like this.” You will, however, find this is a killer disc that really rocks quite well.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2010  Volume 1 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
7dayBinge

They lead off with the track that is not only the title of the album, but the name of the band. This is a powerhouse rocker that's so classic in style that it's scary. It's fuzz laden and built on a killer blues rock backing. This just oozes cool. There's some screaming hot guitar soloing on this.

Oak Tree
Not quite as hard edged, this still has a killer funky groove to it. It’s another tasty slab of retro rock.
End Of The Road
More metallic, they don’t get rid of the retro rock influences at all for the sake of a bit more crunch and heaviness, though.
Free
This is probably the least crunchy tune to this point It’s got a great retro rock sound and is just plain cool. I like it a lot.
I'm No Good
There’s an almost country rock feeling on this number. It’s very retro in terms of its delivery and it’s even less metallic than the one that we just heard.
Coming Back Again
The bass leads this one out. It rocks out pretty hard as it continues. It’s got a retro rock meets Alice in Chains and the Chili Peppers vibe to it.
Cold Dark Grave
Here’s a heavier one, but not to the level of some of the earlier ones. This is another smoking retro rocker.
Good Times
There’s a ZZ Top meets stoner rock vibe to this killer jam and the bass line reminds me a lot of something from Led Zeppelin.
