Tune in to Mind Radio: A Tribute to Multi-Talented Vocalist Kelly Keeling

Review by Gary Hill

Kelly Keeling is a great rock guitarist who has worked with a lot of great people over the years. This set features songs written by Keeling and performed by other artists. It’s an entertaining set with a lot of variety. This is quite a cool disc. I just wish there was more music here.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2013  Volume 1 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
Perfect Day - performed by Carmine Appice and Friends featuring Anthony Z'sler

The arrangement that serves as the backdrop for the first vocals is stripped down. The cut works out from there into a cool pop rock tune that’s accessible and tasteful.

In and Out of Time – performed by Greg "Cos" Cerenzia

Acoustic guitar opens things up here and builds in a folk rock kind of way. Then crunch guitar takes it into hard rocking territory. There is definitely a guitar hero (the old school guitar rocker type, not the video game) kind of vibe to this instrumental.

Rising of the Snake – performed by Park Sipes and Friends

A little raw on the edges, this rocker is quite metallic and very cool.

Free – performed by Marty Paris and Friends

Acoustic guitar serves as the backdrop for an alternative rock meets pop ballad approach.

Morning Song - performed by Jeffrey Michael

Piano starts things off here and works out to a pretty melody. This is essentially a delicate and intricate piano solo with some other bits of instrumentation serving as icing on the cake here and there.

Hombre Salvaje – written/performed by Dominic Gaudious

I think there is some jus harp on this. It powers in like a hard rocking, nearly metal tune, but then turns towards some killer fusion with world music and funk in the mix. This is pretty awesome. In fact, it’s arguably the best tune here. It is also another instrumental.
