Lucky Peterson I’m Back Again Review by Gary Hill Let’s get this out of the way right up front. The performances here are inspired and powerful. That doesn’t make this a perfect album, though. Several tracks seem to cut off abruptly. At one point the sound seems to drop off a lot. There is a bit of a pasted together feel for this. The thing is, the bluesy, soulful rocking performances are so strong that it doesn’t matter. This thing is just great, either way. Track by Track Review

I'm Back Again Some cool jazzy, fast paced blues, this is classy stuff. I love the retro organ sound on the piece and the whole thing just plain rocks.

Smooth Sailing This one is a lot more like a soul tune. It’s got plenty of blues in the mix, too, though. It has some audience participation in the middle of it, too.

Trouble Here we get a mellower tune. It combines blues and soul into a killer sound that works really well.

Blues Medley This one gets points for truth in advertising. It’s a guitar heavy blues medley that just plain rocks. It does work out into some Hendrix at times. There is also some Stevie Ray Vaughn, with the guitar taking the vocal line. It’s an instrumental with some really fiery guitar work. It’s also almost thirteen minutes long. It’s a great centerpiece to the set. The ending feels overly abrupt, though.

Giving Me the Blues I love the killer funky groove on this number. It’s fast paced and just plain cool. It has a tasty drop back to mellower stuff mid-track.

Ta' Ta' You With some screaming guitar soloing at the start, this is a great bluesy, soul tune. A lot of this is arranged over a very stripped back arrangement. Although the vocals are the main element on this piece, there are some powered up jams.

It Ain't Safe There are no big changes here, but rather this is another powerhouse bluesy rocker.

I'm Ready Although we don’t get any big changes in terms of the formula, this stomper is very effective. I particularly like all the organ soloing on the number.

Who's Been Talking The first section of this is on fire. It’s not dramatically different, but it’s just very good. The volume level seems to drop off at the end, though.

I Believe I'll Dust My Broom Starting with some old school, down home back porch blues, this works out to a more traditional blues with some great slide guitar. This really has some particularly tasty guitar built into it. This one gets dropped way down at the end.

World Is in a Tangle This is a fairly short, but high energy jam. It’s another that feels like it just cuts off in the middle of it. Well, actually it does, but they could have edited it a little better, I think.
