Version 5

Version 5 EP

Review by Gary Hill

This EP features a heavy sound that often leans on industrial music. Given that they consider themselves to be an industrial band, that makes sense. There are only three songs here, though, so it’s hard to get a real feel for the group’s sound. I will say that all three show different sides. That’s good variety and range. It doesn’t hurt that it’s all effective, too.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 2 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Why Don't You Drop

Heavy industrial sounds are the driving factor here. This is high energy and very cool. It makes me think of a more mainstream Nine Inch Nails with a bit of Powerman 5000 thrown into the mix.

Bury You
Heavier and noisier than the opener, I love the groove to this smoking hot tune. It does include some dropped back moments, too. This thing screams out in metallic abandon some of the time, too.
Take You There
Less industrial and heavy, this is more of a mainstream rock song with a lot of modern pop in the mix. Then again, it’s not far removed from some of the more pop-oriented nu-metal. It’s a change, but not as strong a tune as the other two are.
