I’ve reviewed the DVD release of this separately in this issue. This is the audio CD. It’s a powerhouse blues based show. The jamming on each every song is incredible. Yet, the songs still stand as “songs” and not just excuses for soloing. This performance is purely on fire. There isn’t a weak tune here, really.

Sound the Bell

I love the bass line on this thing. Of course, you also can’t ignore the guitar playing. That really drives this beast. This is a high energy, classic blues rocker. That bass really shows off on the extended instrumental section.

Don't Take Advantage of Me
There is some definite funk on the bass work here. The guitar soloing is purely on fire with melodic oomph. This is a screaming hot tune that’s part Cream (mainly for one little recurring riff), part Jimi Hendrix and part traditional electric blues. As good as the opener was, this is even hotter. This is one heck of a jam working through a number of changes.
Mojo Boogie
There is some smoking hot slide guitar on this thing. This is more of an old school blues stomper. It has some great harmonica on it to complete the image.
You Lie Too Much
Although this is based on a traditional blues progression, the jamming really elevates. Dr. John’s piano, in particular, really steals the show.
Sugar Sweet
Another traditional blues stomper, this is on fire. I love the harmonica on the tune, but the whole thing rocks.
Love Life & Money
A slower blues, this thing just oozes cool. There aren’t any big surprises, but rather just a healthy dosage of what you’d expect.
Jumpin Jack Flash
They pull out all the stops on this smoking hot Stones cover. There is a bit of feedback on it, but it almost adds to the raw energy. This is the one non-blues song of the set. It’s a scorching hot rendition, too.
