Eva Schubert Hot Damn Romance EP Review by Gary Hill This is quite an intriguing set of music. Most of it lands in a very retro jazz zone. It's all quite entertaining and effective. The vocals fit the music quite well. The horns and guitar really shine, too. I'd like to hear more from this artist. That's particularly true because the final song here hints at a real range. Track by Track Review

Flying High With a cool groove, this has a great old-school jazz vibe to it. The vocals are particularly effective. I dig the guitar sound, and the horns lend a lot to the arrangement.

Brawler There is a bit more of a rock and roll vibe to this cut. It's still very retro in texture and jazzy in texture, though. It's a classy tune.

Hot Damn Romance The title track is an energized smoker. It has a real sultry vibe along with plenty of rock and roll and jazz.

Sweet Man There is a real old-school jazz groove driving this piece. It's more purely set in a vintage zone than some of the rest of the music here is. It has some smoking hot guitar soloing. It's another winner on a set full of great music.

Water There is a dreamy, kind of trippy vibe to this number. It is the most modern sounding thing here, landing in the zone of artsy kind of rock music. There are still some hints of jazz in the mix, but they are essentially minor on this song. While I think I prefer this track to the rest of the music here, it somehow doesn't feel like it belongs with the rest. Still, it's a great piece.
