Hey Maria (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

It is easy to think of modern pop music as a sea of over-produced sounds with all the soul and life sucked from it. Then something like this comes along and shows that pop music can still be done with style and integrity. The song is very catchy and classy.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) in Music Street Journal: 2019  Volume 6. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2019.

Track by Track Review
Hey Maria
There is a bit of an electronic flourish to start this. Jazz guitar joins to take the cut out from there. This has a cool kind of groove. It's modern pop, but modern pop rooted heavily in old school jazz sounds. This arrangement gets into some soaring, powerful zones as it continues. This piece has so much magic and charm.
