Gene Vincent Sounds Like Gene Vincent (10-inch vinyl EP) Review by Gary Hill This new release from Bear Family is classy stuff. We get a reissue of an old EP from Gene Vincent with three new bonus tracks (the fifth and sixth songs on side A and the fifth one on side B). The whole thing is on some cool looking gray vinyl. It also includes a bonus post card. This is an old-school rock and roll release with a lot of class. A

Maybe A doo-wop styled old-school rock and roller, this is a catchy and bouncy number. The guitar solo on this has a real old-school country sound.

I Got To Get You Yet A more energetic number, the old school rock and roll at the heart of this is all class.

You Are The One For Me A ballad, this has some cool piano work on it. It also represents some variety.

In Love Again While this is still retro in style (well contemporary for when it was recorded) it actually feels more timeless than some of the others. It's a mid-tempo piece that works quite well. I'd consider it one of the standouts here.

Be Bop Boogie Boy The piano and saxophone bring some intriguing flavors to this tune. It's an energized rock and roller. This is a classy tune for certain.

The Night Is So Lonely Another old-school ballad, this has a bit of that doo-wop vibe. It's solid, but not a standout.

B

My Heart This has a great groove and some killer old-school guitar sounds. The vocal hooks are so catchy. This is one of the highlights of the disc.

Maybelline Vincent and company cover Chuck Berry here. This is fast paced and classy version of the tune. I definitely prefer the original, but this has its charms. In particularly I love the bass line on this, and the saxophone solo wails.

Now Is The Hour This ballad has a bit of an Island vibe to it. The doo-wop styled backing vocals seem to fit pretty well. While this isn't my favorite tune here by any means, it works.

Ready Teddy An energized rock and roller, this is a lot of fun. While it's not a highlight, I particularly dig the guitar solo on this tune, and the bass really grooves.

Over The Rainbow Yes, this is a version of "that" song. It's done as a mellow ballad. It works pretty well.
