Unearth

Live in Tinley Park, Illinois, August, 2011

Review by Mike Heitzman

These guys were playing the second stage at the 2011 Mayhem Fest, but you couldn't tell, as they just split the place apart. The crowd went completely crazy throughout their entire set. Even though it felt like it was 110 degrees outside and there was absolutely no shade, the crowd just went insane. Hardly anyone hesitated to participate in the frenzied mosh pit. The band never seemed to run out of energy or leadership as everyone practically worked their way in to a heat stroke.

These thrashers played through a good variety of their old and new hits and just drove the crowd wild. The second stage speakers barely holding up to over ten years of metal history, they didn't hold anything back. These guys are just completely off the hook and left us all wanting more. I would say without hesitation that Unearth was my favorite band that I had the pleasure of witnessing at Mayhem Fest 2011.
