Live in Portland, Oregon, February 2013

Review by Larry Toering

This was a much anticipated evening of music, as the legendary Doro Pesch blazed her way to Portland in support of her latest record. There were a lot of raised fists in the house to say the least. Most of the evening was a thrill-ride of both volume and energy. By the time she hit the stage it was already a head pounding experience. The band is one tight unit as well, with excellent guitars, keyboards and a killer drum solo extravaganza, like I haven't seen in years.

They blew through a set of both new and old with a few surprises as well. One fun moment was when Doro celebrated the birthday of one of the crew members. She brought a lit cake out on the stage and everything, which isn't something you often see concerning stage personnel. That was something I will never forget, as it added an overall party touch to the atmosphere. Then she thanked the crowd and high-fived the entire front row. It was hard to catch a glance of her in one spot, as she moved around at all times.

It has been over twenty years since I've seen her on stage, and it's amazing how great shape she's in, both physically and the way her voice has held up. She is truly an amazing spirit that way, as she rocks a crowd with the best of them, with apparently no end in sight. What a blast they had – and we had, witnessing the fury they brought. And although they may have been doing some covers in their set, they took me totally by surprise with an extraordinary Judas Priest cover that included an acoustic section, to top off the whole night.
