Cactus

Live DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I admit it; I’m a progressive rock and heavy metal junkie. That doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate good old blues oriented 1970’s styled rock – who doesn’t? Cactus has always done this style as well as pretty much anyone else out there – and better than a lot of them. It’s great that in this DVD we have a video of this new incarnation of the band plying their trade live. The band proves that they rock out in the live venue as well as in the studio. It would have been nice to see some more bonus features, but all in all, that’s a minor complaint. The truth of the matter is, this video is well shot and captures the band in all its glory (and with a few minor warts intact to add some character) for those who couldn’t make the show. These guys aren’t perfect, but they are darn close to it, and the minor imperfections are what make it a live performance. The truth is, if you like this style of hard rocking, blues based music, then you can’t go wrong here. Cactus was, is and always will be the real deal!
