This is The Punk Cabaret – Live At The Roundhouse London DVD

This duo is billed as punk, but I don’t really hear it in their sound. Their piano and drum approach might convey some of the punk ideals, but really it’s quite experimental music that somewhat defies definition and genreification. Their clothing and such might lump them into a punk category, but they are so much more. Their live show as presented here is so much more than just a band concert, too. It’s literally cabaret, merging music, burlesque and a lot more into some experimental mix of sound and theatrics. I’m not sure what it is, but I like it. In addition to the duo we get several guests including Lene Lovich and most odd of the bunch, and aerialist. While this is definitely only for the adventurous, it’s definitely worth taking on the adventure. This is one of the most unique and intriguing shows you’ll ever see. I guess I should mention that it has a lot of bonus material in the form of documentary footage, interviews and the like. While that’s cool, it’s the main feature of this concert / event that really steals the show.
