Dylanesque Live – The London Sessions DVD

I’ve always enjoyed Roxy Music (the band for which Bryan Ferry is most famous), but never been what you would call a “fan.” I’ve never followed his solo career. In many ways my experiences with Bob Dylan are similar. I think the man is a genius as a songwriter. At times his performances can be incredible, too, but in many cases his songs reach their true peak in the artistic hands of another musician. In that aspect I feel the same way about Dylan that I do about Roy Orbison.
With these things in mind, I had high hopes, but not over the top expectations going into the DVD. So, what was the end result? Ferry’s performances here are top notch. The band is tight. In many cases Ferry’s interpretations of Dylan’s songs are close to spectacular. In other words, this is a killer DVD that should appeal to Ferry’s fans, but also fans of Bob Dylan, as well. It’s one of the stronger DVD’s to come out this year.
