Device-Voice-Drum DVD

This DVD is one that has both positive and negative aspects. On the positive side the performance here is very strong, and it is just plain nice to have a Kansas video. The only real negative aspect is the fact that the video is grainy. In today's digital era that seems a hard pill to swallow. Apparently, though, the video was shot on film rather than to digital and insufficient lighting caused a grainy effect. One could argue that it gives a certain documentary texture to the video, but I am not in that camp. Still, the strength of this performance far outweighs any negatives that a little underexposed film might cause. Also, there is a cool animated intro and several intriguing interview segments. The band performs songs from every phase of their career, the more prog oriented pieces holding up far better over the years than the material from the poppier era of the group. Overall, this one is definitely recommended for fans of the band and prog-heads in general.
