Manowar

Fire And Blood DVD

Review by Gary Hill

All hail the kings of true metal! Yes, these guys are a bit over the top at times, even bordering on silly, but man do they rock! This is a two DVD set that showcases one of the most faithful old school metal bands in their live performance. The video and audio here is nearly flawless, and the recordings seem to have been left purely sans-studio augmentation. That is a good thing. The first DVD is entitled "Hell On Earth Part II" This one is almost documentary format with short clips between the songs. The overall effect tends to make this one more for the hardcore Manowar fans rather than the more casual listener like this reviewer. There is also a rather annoying split screen approach to this DVD, as well. That brings us to DVD number 2 - Blood In Brazil. This is the complete Monsters of Rock show from 1998, and it is definitely more like it. This is a killer performance by the band, and it is preserved very well for posterity here. I personally don't see myself watching the first disc all that often, but the Brazil show will be a frequent visitor to my DVD player.
