The Crusaders

Live at Montreux 2003 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Here we have a Montreux Jazz Festival gig that is actually jazz! Yeah! OK, seriously, this is some killer jazz. The Crusaders were one of the pioneering groups of this funky version of jazz music and this performance is top notch. The group is Joe Sample, Wilton Felder and Ray Parker, Jr. Yes, it’s that Ray Parker, Jr. and they do a killer version of his theme from Ghostbusters. This is some awesome jazz that should please all longtime fans and jazz aficionados everywhere. Since it’s modern the video and audio are both excellent. Since it’s a talented group, so is the music.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2008  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.
